Maps show how close Caldor Fire is burning to Lake Tahoe

CALIFORNIA (August 30, 2021)— New Cal Fire operations maps show how close the Caldor Fire is now raging to the Tahoe Basin.

A detailed map shows the red tendrils of the fire’s edge reaching into Desolation Wilderness near Ralston Peak. The fire line is also just below Upper and Lower Echo lakes. You can see a full-size version of the map here, although it can be a bit tricky to read as the map is topographical rather than a street-by-street view. The map is usually updated about once per day, so real-time fire lines have now moved past these. As of Monday evening, the fire was officially down into the basin.
