ALABAMA (May 3, 2022)–Alabama Republicans criticized President Biden’s decision to visit a weapons plant in Pike County today, saying the president should spend his time addressing problems they blame on his policies, such as inflation, high gas prices, and illegal immigration.
Biden is coming to Alabama today to visit the Lockheed Martin plant north of Troy. The company manufactures Javelin missiles that Ukraine is using in its defense against the invasion by Russia.
“Lockheed Martin does a great job. Their facility is world class and they get the job done,” Alabama Republican Party Chair John Wahl said. “And it’s nice to highlight that. But I think the president should be focused on areas that are broken and that deeply need help today. I want him to be visiting the single mother who is struggling to put food on the table. I want him to visit the middle class, those families paying twice for gas today what they were two years ago. He should be talking to seniors on fixed incomes. People out there struggling to make ends meet.”
Moore said he has been to the Lockheed Martin plant and said it is an example of the “amazing manufacturing” done in Alabama.
Wahl and Moore were asked their reaction to reports about a draft opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court that indicates the justices are planning to overturn the Roe v. Wade abortion rights decision.
“Obviously, we would love to see Roe v. Wade overturned,” Moore said. “But our concern right now, I think the biggest thing is, (the leak) it’s unprecedented and it’s dangerous. And to me it’s further proof that nothing obstructing the left’s radical agenda is safe.”
“But we think the real concern is the leak,” Wahl said. “Because it undermines our form of government. And it undermines not only the American people but the high court. And we really think that needs to be addressed. Because we can talk about insurrection in a physical manner. But it’s just as much insurrection to undermine the form of government and these protocols that are sacred to our country.”
