HIGHLAND PARK, Ill (July 4, 2022)— in a morning Highland Park, Illinois parade the sound of gunfire ranged out, sending people fleeing baby carriages, bicycles, and chairs… seeking coverage from a shooter who was on a rooftop building alone the parade route.
Shooting was the most typical type of terrorist attack in 2020. That year, shootings were used in 40 percent of terrorist attacks. With 15 percent of all attacks, planting mines and IEDs (bombs) was the third most common act of terrorism that year and bombing the second most common type of tactic with 20 percent.
” In 2021, there were a total of eight people charged with jihadi terrorism in the United States: seven of whom were male. Since 9/11, more than 500 people have been charged with terrorism in the United States, with 2015 seeing the largest spike in people charged with terrorism,” according to Statistics .
“Despite fears that extremism groups on the left and right are on the rise in the United States. The extremist groups are “far more prevalent than jihadi terrorism.” From 2011 to 2020, 20 percent of extremist-related killings were caused by someone affiliated with Islamist extremism, and three quarters of extremist-related killings were carried out by someone affiliated with right-wing extremism. Overall, there have been relatively few terrorist attacks in the U.S. since 1970,” reported Statistics .
But, this unique July 4th celebration mass shooting is different from other mass shootings. The shooter is shooting from the rooftop, normally an attack used by terrorist. Terrorist use rooftops to shoot from a high advantage point.
“This doesn’t happen here,” said a witness who ran to safety with his family. “It shouldn’t happen anywhere.”
