
WASHINGTON, DC, November 1, 2022– today Chief Justice John Roberts temporarily blocked the Democratic lead House committee from obtaining former President Donald J. Trump’s tax returns.
Robert’s stay comes one week before the midterm elections. The Supreme Court to intervene in the case to block the release of Trump’s tax returns to the House Ways and Means Committee.
The temporary stay gives the court more time to consider Trump’s emergency appeal. The order stays the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals order that the that the House Ways and Means Committee can obtain former President Trump’s tax returns from the Internal Revenue Service.
The House panel has until November 10th to file a response with the Supreme Court.
Trump asked the Supreme Court to block a judge’s order that the IRS give years of his tax returns to the House Ways and Means Committee later this week.
