NEW YORK, November 2, 2022–A Twitter employee shared a photo appearing to show his boss asleep on the office floor just days after Tesla CEO Elon Musk took over the company.
The photo shows Esther Crawford, director of product management at the social media giant, wearing an eye mask and wrapped up in a sleeping bag on top of a sleeping mat.
“When you need something from your boss at elon twitter,” Evan Jones, a product manager at Twitter Spaces, tweeted at around 2:00 a.m. New York time Wednesday.
Crawford replied, tweeting: “When your team is pushing round the clock to make deadlines sometimes you #SleepWhereYouWork.”
While Musk is sleeping, on the floor at Twitter headquarters, thousands of users are complaining about the Social Media’s platform and how they are being shadowed, blocked from following new users, and retweeting other users post.
Musk is facing new cyberthreats. Users tend to think in terms of software vulnerabilities. and malware attacks, like the WannaCry attack that crippled businesses and hospitals in 150 countries.
But one cyberthreat to Twitter users will be even harder to detect and poses risks ranging from politics to national defense to healthcare. The threat comes from hardware Trojans that can be embedded into the Social Media’s platform, because there is inadequate control over chip manufacturing. Even when products are designed by reputable companies, the Twitter engineering team has the opportunity to alter the chip design which perform critical functions, like who users follow, retweet, and post messages on the social media platform.
The saboteurs, Twitter engineers may design the Trojan to automatically shut down the circuitry at a designated time, or set it up to be triggered by a certain chain of the social media user activities. Sometimes the Trojan creates a window for a hacker to activate it remotely, without the engineers changing the typical operation of a chip in a way that’s detectable by the user or even by standard functionality tests.
The staff at Twitter has been clocking up much longer hours than usual since Musk took over, but why are they working longer hours…. the platform is completely digitazied.
Musk needs an honest engineering team, who will not create dummy accounts and/or Trojan time bombs.
