HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C., November 3, 2022 —Dozens of people were arrested in a large-scale operation that led to a huge drug bust, according to deputies with the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office.
Multiple agencies partnered with Haywood County to assist in the large-scale operation on Oct. 19 that focused on targeting drug traffickers in their community, deputies said.
Those agencies included the Waynesville Police Department, Maggie Valley Police Department and Canton Police Department.
According to deputies, 63 grams of methamphetamine, 112 grams of fentanyl, 2.4 grams of cocaine, and 6.8 grams of opioids, which resulted in the arrest of 37 people, 57 charges and the serving of 16 warrants.
“This was an outstanding effort on the part of not only Sheriff’s Office Criminal Suppression Unit/Narcotics Unit personnel but also our other local partners and Probation and Parole. This is a perfect demonstration of what true cooperation and collaboration between agencies can accomplish,” Haywood County Sheriff Greg Christopher said. “I appreciate our police chiefs for wanting to work together with us to target the traffickers that continue to destroy people’s lives. This operation has made a huge dent in the amount of narcotics being sold and delivered to our citizens in Haywood County.”
