WASHINGTON, D.C., November 11, 2022–Speaker Nancy Pelosi has less than ninety-days left in office as the Speaker of the House. She is the 52nd Speaker of the House of Representatives. She was elected in 207 as the first woman to serve as the Speaker of the House.
Speaker Of The House Legislative Power
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA-D) is currently responsible for ensuring that the House passes legislation supported by the majority party. In pursuing this goal, the speaker may use their power to determine when each bill reaches the floor. They also chair the majority party’s steering committee in the House. But, after Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy moves into the Speaker of the House position, Pelosi will loose her power to decide which bill to reach the floor.
Pelosi To Loose Perks
Last summer, Nancy Pelosi’s Air Force passenger jet, was escorted by 13 US Fighter Jets and Tankers when she traveled to Taiwan as part of a United States’ obligation to stand with democracies against autocratic countries, and with democratic Taiwan against China. Pelosi also led a congressional delegation to the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv last spring, and her latest effort serves as a capstone to her years of promoting democracy abroad.
- Pelosi to loose the airplane perks and the power to lead congressional delegations once she is kicked out as Speaker of the House.
- Pelosi will not receive House service because she isn’t ending her service. If Pelosi were re-elected, she would be “entitled to one moderately tricked-out office anywhere in the country, a decent expense account, a handful of staffers and continuation of their “franking” privileges — the ability to send snail mail carrying their signature instead of a stamp.”
Presidential Succession
In the event the President dies, resigns or is otherwise unable to continue serving as president, he or she is replaced according to a line of succession outlined in the Presidential Succession Act of 1947. If the first person in line to become president is unable to assume the office because of a vacancy or they are ineligible to serve, the next person in line becomes president.
- Pelosi will no longer be second in line to become president if the office is vacant if the President is unable to continue serving.
