WASHINGTON, November 15, 2022 – Donald Trump is expected to announce plans to seek the presidency again in 2024 during a 9 p.m. event that comes a week after Republican election losses scrambled the emerging GOP nomination race and undercut the ex-president’s status as party leader.
Many Republicans blamed Trump for the GOP’s poor showing in the 2002 midterms, and are urging party members to look for a new candidate. Some as pushing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who defied trends by winning more than 59% of the vote in his re-election race.
Trump, who is under criminal investigation as well as political pressure, refused Republican entreaties to delay his announcement, and is going forward with a speech at his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Fla.
Trump’s war chest currently stands at about $93 million, when accounting for the $69 million held by Save America, the $23 million held by MAGA, Inc., and roughly $1 million held by another PAC that used to be his presidential campaign account. Under federal law, Save America can only give $5,000 to Trump’s not-yet-established official 2024 campaign account.
The Democrats aren’t taking Trump’s 2024 Presidential campaign for granted. The Democratic super PAC American Bridge filed a complain against Trump last March alleging that he was using Save America as a vehicle for his 2024 presidential ambitions. But some experts tol insider earlier this year that Trump could tease the idea without having to register as a candidate.
