
WASHINGTON, DC, November 18, 2022—today, Department of Justice Attorney General Garland appointed a special counsel to oversee investigations involving former President Donald J. Trump.
The appointment of special counsel to oversee investigations into the presence of classified documents at Donald Trump’s Florida estate as well as a separate probe involving the Jan. 6 insurrection comes in less than a week after Trump kicked off his 2024 Presidential Campaign and one day after the House Republicans announced they would open an investigation into the Biden’s family corruption.

“Garland said Friday that Trump’s announcement of his presidential candidacy and President Joe Biden’s likely 2024 run were factors in his decision to appoint a special counsel.
