ARIZONA—The Arizona National Guard does more than protecting our Nation, but the service members deliver boxes of groceries to area residents in Three Points, Ariz., Nov. 5, 2020. The Arizona National Guard has activated more than 800 Arizona citizen soldiers and airmen to support the community during this emergency response.
In August Arizona Congressman Greg Stanton suggested that Governor Doug Decey to mobilize National Guard to do COVID-19 tracing to contain the deadly virus.
“Gov. Doug Ducey did just that, correctly so because Arizona doesn’t have time to waste, given the dramatic uptick of COVID-19 cases since the state reopened its economy,” wrote the AZ Central.
President Donald J. Trump’s Administration is providing food assistance to states during the COVID-19 pandemic. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is granting states significant program flexibilities and contingencies to best serve program participants across our 15 nutrition programs. Below are summaries of actions taken to ease program operations and protect the health of participants.
Emergency Allotments: States may issue benefits to SNAP households that normally receive less than the maximum benefit.
Pandemic EBT: FNS is allowing states to provide benefits to children who normally receive free or reduced-price school meals.
SNAP Online Purchasing: FNS rapidly expanded SNAP online purchasing to support social distancing.
Additional state flexibilities: The Continuing Appropriations Act 2021 allows states to adopt certain options without FNS action.
