NEW YORK –As renewed attention falls on the Jeffrey Epstein case, critics are raising questions about the Democratic Party’s selective outrage and alleged double standards. While some Democrats have recently joined efforts to demand transparency around Epstein’s federal investigation files, others argue that the party has long avoided accountability for its own high-profile connections to the disgraced financier.
One of the most glaring examples cited by critics is former President Bill Clinton’s documented ties to Epstein. Flight logs show Clinton flew on Epstein’s private jet—often referred to as the “Lolita Express”—multiple times. Despite this, Clinton has not faced formal inquiry or public pressure from Democratic leadership to explain his relationship with Epstein or address the allegations surrounding those trips2.
Adding fuel to the controversy is the fact that during former President Joe Biden’s administration, Democrats did not publicly call for the release of Epstein-related tapes or files. House Speaker Mike Johnson and President Trump have both pointed out that Democrats had control of the federal records for four years and failed to act. “So if they had something, they would’ve released it before the election,” Trump said, criticizing what he sees as political shielding.
While some Democratic lawmakers, such as Rep. Ro Khanna and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, have supported legislation to release Epstein files, these efforts largely gained momentum only after media investigations reignited public interest. Before Epstein’s arrest in 2019, Democrats were notably quiet on the issue—even as conservative media repeatedly highlighted Clinton’s ties to Epstein.
This silence has led to accusations that Democrats are attempting to shift focus away from their own vulnerabilities by framing Epstein as a symbol of broader corruption, without confronting the party’s own entanglements. Critics argue that this approach not only undermines the pursuit of justice but also fails the many women who suffered abuse within Epstein’s network.
If Democrats are serious about transparency and accountability, observers say, they must confront the uncomfortable truths within their own ranks. That includes demanding answers from Clinton and acknowledging the party’s past reluctance to act when it mattered most. Until then, the Epstein case remains a political flashpoint—one that risks exposing hypocrisy on both sides of the aisle.
