Mets SP Jacob deGrom to miss Monday start, remains day-to-day with forearm tightness

NEW YORK (July 17, 2021)—The New York Mets will be without ace Jacob deGrom Monday, according to manager Luis Rojas. The pitcher is still dealing with forearm tightness and is considered day-to-day.

deGrom is 7-2 with a 1.08 ERA in 2021. He’s been the Mets best pitcher by a substantial margin this year and is instrumental in leading the team to the top of the NL East standings. The Mets are currently -300 to win the division and +425 to win the NL.

According to Rojas, deGrom’s MRI revealed no structural damage. It seems the Mets are being cautious with their star as they near the trade deadline before what appears to be a tight division race. The Philadelphia Phillies are only three games behind New York and the Atlanta Braves are four games behind. Given the Mets just lost Francisco Lindor to an oblique strain, they’re making sure deGrom is good to go before sending him to the mound again.

deGrom suffered his arm injury during a June 16 start against the Cubs.
